Thursday, March 6, 2025

Raised $70M and Exited: Why Product-Market Fit Outweighs Early VC Pursuit

Tom Coburn, co-founder of Jebbit, will share his entrepreneurial journey from dropping out of Boston College in 2013 to building Jebbit into the world’s first declared data platform. With major clients such as Cathay Pacific Airways, LifeLock, and the New England Revolution, Jebbit was recognized as one of CNBC’s Top 25 Most Promising Companies and earned accolades for its culture and innovation.

Tom will reflect on his journey raising $70M from Vista in 2020, and eventually selling Jebbit to a Vista portfolio company in 2022. He’ll share pivotal lessons learned, including the challenges of chasing VC funding and CMO buy-in over focusing on the end-user experience. After enduring a difficult period in 2019 that included layoffs and customer churn, Tom shifted focus to product-market fit, an approach he’ll adopt for his next startup. This event will provide valuable insights for founders and investors on scaling companies, navigating growth challenges, and the importance of aligning product strategy with user needs.

Find a Cofounder, Help or Join a Tech Startup

Friday, January 23, 2025

8:00 PM - 9:30 PM EDT - ZOOM Event

Find a Cofounder, Help or Join a Tech Startup

If you are a startup founder or anyone else in the tech ecosystem looking to start, join, or help a tech startup, this event is for you!

Startup founders pitch their business or concept to the audience like on Shark Tank. Then, each founder gets a breakout room for more collaboration and discussions, similar to a hackathon.

We are meeting on Zoom, the link is here in the listing.

Agenda
8:00pm – 8:10 EDT
Intros: while people trickle in, we introduce ourselves and the structure so you can get the most out of it.

8:10 - 8:25
Pitches: 5-8 startup founders have 3 minutes to pitch their businesses to everyone - they will tell us their biggest business needs or obstacles. The pitches have no Q&A - any questions can be asked in the breakouts.

8:30 – onward
Breakout Groups: each founder that pitched gets one. You can choose which breakout to join to have a deeper discussion with the founder.

Startup Oasis was created to pierce the illusion of accessibility of startups and tech by creating a grassroots forum for early-stage founders to pitch to those in the tech ecosystem to get real-time feedback for their idea or business.
