How to Hire and Grow Your Team

Are you an SFU community member with an idea? Are you an SFU Venture Connection Client, or recent SFU alumni with a venture? Join us for a 90-minute presentation and discussion on how to hire and grow your team! You will hear first-hand start-up experiences and gain valuable skills, including:

• How to prioritize your first hires

• How to plan for growth

• Take advantage of hiring grants

• HR basics: job descriptions, hiring/firing checklists, onboarding, operations requirements, etc.

This is an opportunity for founders and ventures of any stage to learn about the power of a strong foundation in setting up a great team from inception. You do not need a venture or even a startup idea to participate.

Gurmesh Sidhu leads product management and sales at Moment. He is responsible for delivering a differentiated product to market based on customer needs, as well as developing Moment’s pricing strategy and business model. Prior to Moment, Gurmesh was the founding president of Team Phantom at SFU, where he led a team of over 40 engineering students to build an electric race vehicle from scratch. In 2021, he was selected as one of Canada’s Top 50 Business Change Makers by the Globe and Mail.

Rachel Chase is a healthcare founder and innovator. She is Director of Business Development with Rostrum Medical Innovations, Associate Life Sciences Lead Mentor with SFU’s Venture Connection, and a co-founder and former CEO of Zennea Technologies.
